Jonah Hill may have a few riddles to offer the Caped Crusader.
The casting is coming together for The Batman, the long-in-the-works Batman movie that was once to be led by Ben Affleck before he moved on and Robert Pattinson came in to don the cowl. It now appears that Oscar-nominated actor Jonah Hill is not only on board, but he’ll be playing none other than the villain The Riddler.
Deadline broke the news that Hill “is in talks to play a villain” in the film, although they didn’t put forth any details on who the villain would be. While speculation has quickly spread that Hill would be playing Penguin, Collider is now reporting that Hill will be signing on to play Riddler, although they do point out that no official deal has been made as yet.
We await confirmation from other outlets and from Warner Bros. on this, but it’s a very interesting bit of casting if it proves to be true. Hill was mostly recently seen with Matthew McConaughey in Harmony Korine’s The Beach Bum and starred opposite Emma Stone in Netflix series Maniac.
Jim Carrey played Riddler, aka Edward Nygma, in Joel Schumacher’s ’95 film Batman Forever.
The Batman is to star Pattinson as the DC hero and will be directed and written by Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield). The film is schedule to arrive in Australia on June 24 and will open in the US on June 25, 2021.
