Jonathan Majors On Returning to Marvel If Asked: “Of Course I Say Yes”

Marvel Studios

Jonathan Majors has spoken out about the possibility of returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sharing that he would be open to reprising his role as Kang the Conqueror if asked.

The actor, who portrayed the time-hopping villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and variants Victor Timely/He Who Remains/The Time Keepers in Disney+ series Loki, told USA Today that he holds no ill will towards Marvel Studios and Disney following his dismissal from the franchise.

“Yeah, of course I say yes. Disney, Marvel Studios, I love them,” Majors said. “Tom Hiddleston, loved working with that guy. Loved working with Paul Rudd. Loved working with Gugu Mbatha-Raw. I love the industry so much, and now I’m in the place where I can feel the love from them and actually express my love for them.”

Majors’ tenure in the MCU was cut short after the actor was convicted of two misdemeanor counts of reckless assault and harassment in December 2023. Despite having been positioned as the next major antagonist in the franchise, leading up to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, Marvel Studios dropped Majors following his conviction. The studio then retooled its plans, shifting focus from Kang to Doctor Doom, a supervillain to be played by none other than Robert Downey Jr. – returning to the franchise after having played Tony Stark/Iron Man. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was renamed Avengers: Doomsday.

In a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, Majors was asked again whether he would consider returning to Marvel or his role as Damian “Diamond Dame” Anderson in the Creed franchise. He played the character, an antagonist of sorts, in the Michael B. Jordan-directed Creed III.

“Yes. Yes, to both,” Majors answered. “The version of me that would come back to those places, though, would be different. I don’t think anything different would happen between ‘action’ and ‘cut.’ That’s why I got the job. But there would be something different about it if I were to come back, and I would like that. But as I said, it’s not in my control.”

Majors is preparing for the release of his next film, Magazine Dreams. The bodybuilding drama was initially pulled from release by Searchlight Pictures following Majors’ legal troubles, but has since been picked up by Briarcliff Entertainment for a U.S. release on March 21st.

As Majors awaits his return to the big screen, questions still remain over how his off-screen controversies, including newly released audio recordings relating to his conviction, may affect his career going forward. For now, however, the actor has made it clear: if Marvel calls, he’s ready to answer.
