Joseph Gordon-Levitt Will Direct Anne Hathaway in an AI Thriller

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is returning to the director’s chair for an untitled AI thriller, with Oscar winner Anne Hathaway set to star.

The film is being produced under T-Street Productions, the company led by Knives Out filmmaker Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman. This marks yet another collaboration for Gordon-Levitt and Johnson, whose creative partnership dates back to 2005’s Brick.

Apart from it being a thriller that involves artificial intelligence, the plot details remain under wraps. Deadline, the outlet that broke the news, reports that that Gordon-Levitt has co-written the script with Kieran Fitzgerald, who co-wrote Oliver Stone’s Levitt-starring Snowden. The “story by” credit goes to Levitt, Fitzgerald, and, interestingly, Natasha Lyonne, star of Peacock series Poker Face (created by Johnson). The project continues a string of creative collaborations for Gordon-Levitt and T-Street, with Bergman having produced Gordon-Levitt’s 2013 directorial debut, Don Jon. Johnson reportedly also played a behind-the-scenes role on that film, offering feedback and reviewing cuts.

This upcoming thriller marks a reunion for Gordon-Levitt and Hathaway, who both starred in Christopher Nolan’s 2012 Batman film The Dark Knight Rises. Hathaway recently wrapped several high-profile projects, including David Lowery’s Mother Mary and Michael Showalter’s Verity, and will begin shooting Nolan’s next film for Universal next year.

Gordon-Levitt, meanwhile, had a few projects released this year: Netflix’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, Prime Video release Killer Heat, and crime comedy Greedy People. He’ll soon start filming a horror film titled Pendulum, from writer-director Mark Heyman and with Darren Aronofsky producing.
