Two-time Oscar nominee Jude Law will be playing a Disney villain.
The actor is now in talks to take on the role of Captain Hook in a live-action Peter Pan movie currently in the works at Disney. The film, titled Peter Pan & Wendy, is to be directed by David Lowery, known for Disney’s Pete’s Dragon remake, The Old Man & the Gun, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints and A Ghost Story. Lowery has also penned the screenplay with Toby Halbrooks (Pete’s Dragon).
Variety broke the news of Law’s casting, reporting that Disney is aiming to give Peter Pan & Wendy a cinematic release and not releasing it as a Disney Plus streaming exclusive, as has been the case with the Lady and the Tramp remake and recently Artemis Fowl.
Law will be taking on a role previously played by Dustin Hoffman in Steven Spielberg’s Hook (1991), Jason Isaacs in P.J. Hogan’s Peter Pan (2003), and Garrett Hedlund in Joe Wright’s Pan (2015). All three of those live-action films failed to take flight at the box office and only one, Hogan’s Peter Pan, was well received by critics. Fingers crossed Disney has something special lined up here.
Set to play Peter Pan and Wendy are Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson respectively. Anderson, by the way, is Milla Jovovich’s daughter.
