Sony Pictures has released the official trailer for Jumanji: Open World, reuniting Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan. This time, the game’s avatars have broken free, Bravestone has a Spanish accent, and the outside world is spectacularly unprepared. Watch the trailer above and read on for what to know.
The Jumanji Avatars Have Broken Free
Spencer (Alex Wolff) and his friends are summoned to Nora’s restaurant, where his grandfather Eddie (Danny DeVito) casually gestures towards a familiar glinting bald head. Dr. Xander “Smolder” Bravestone is back, although something is clearly not working as intended.

Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon, Franklin “Mouse” Finbar and Ruby Roundhouse soon appear alongside him. They are no longer safely contained inside the game and have become stuck in what Spencer describes as “demo mode”. That means limited abilities, malfunctioning personalities and Bravestone inexplicably speaking with a Spanish accent. Even Oberon can see that something has gone badly wrong: “I’m beginning to suspect that we’re not in Jumanji.”
A rhinoceros crashes through Nora’s during a holiday gathering. Ostriches charge through city streets. Lizards, oxen and other oversized threats turn everyday locations into sprawling game levels, all while Europe’s “The Final Countdown” signals that the franchise is heading towards its last round.
The players now face the complicated task of getting the avatars back inside the console. Naturally, that means we’re in for more body-swapping craziness. Spencer’s mother, Janice (Marin Hinkle), lands in the Bravestone avatar; Spencer becomes Ruby; restaurant chef Donatas (Dan Hildebrand) takes over Shelly; and Janice’s young nephew Tyson (Jack Jewkes) winds up as Mouse.
The Gang Is Back in Play
Johnson, Hart, Black and Gillan reprise their roles as Bravestone, Mouse, Oberon and Ruby, respectively.
The original teenage players are also back, including Wolff as Spencer, Madison Iseman as Bethany, Morgan Turner as Martha and Ser’Darius Blain as Fridge. Rhys Darby and Nick Jonas also return, while Brittany O’Grady and Lamorne Morris can be spotted in the trailer.
Jake Kasdan returns to direct after helming both Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level. He wrote the screenplay with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. Kasdan also produces alongside Matt Tolmach, Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia.
A Billion-Dollar Trilogy Reaches Its Last Level
Sony’s modern Jumanji films have been a considerable box-office force. Welcome to the Jungle earned more than US$962 million worldwide after opening in 2017. Its 2019 follow-up, The Next Level, added over US$801 million globally. Combined, the two Johnson and Hart-led films have grossed a whopping US$1.76 billion.
Jumanji: Open World Release Date
Jumanji: Open World opens in U.S. cinemas on Christmas Day, December 25, and Australian cinemas on Boxing Day, December 26, 2026.
