Watch: Dinosaurs Clash in Official ‘Jurassic World’ Short Film ‘Battle at Big Rock’

Universal Pictures

Universal has released an official Jurassic World short film!

If you were keen to know a little more about what things were like following the final act of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, in which dinosaurs escaped out into the wide world, you’re in luck. Titled Battle at Big Rock, the short film below is set one year after the events of the film and now finds some dinos wreaking havoc. Don’t worry about bear attacks; worry about Allosaurus attacks. We follow a family in an RV that find themselves in a terrifying moment.

The cast includes André Holland (Castle Rock, Moonlight), Natalie Martinez (End of Watch, The I-Land), Melody Hurd and Pierson Salvador, with direction from Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow. Check out the fun short film, and stay watching through the credits, then scroll down for what Trevorrow had to say.

“Universal asked if I’d be interested in making a short film and I didn’t give them any time to reconsider,” Trevorrow, who is also directing Jurassic World 3, told Collider. “I wrote it with Emily Carmichael, who is co-writing Jurassic World 3. It felt like a first step into a larger world after the last film. You have these animals loose in an unfamiliar environment, they’re disoriented, struggling to adapt. The first people they run into are bound to be camping.”

He added: “The world is bigger than just the characters we’ve been following in the films. We’ve finally taken the story off Isla Nublar, we wanted to show a glimpse of that new reality. If this really happened, you’d see a series of random disconnected incidents that would create a pattern of chaos. I wanted to see one of those incidents.”

Jurassic World 3, which will have Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard continuing on with the franchise, is scheduled to hit US cinemas on June 11, 2021.
