Take a look above at the trailer that’s arrived for Karate Kid: Legends. The next chapter in the franchise introduces a new lead character, Li Fong (Ben Wang), and brings back two fan favourites: Jackie Chan as Mr. Han and Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso.
The plot here centres on Li, a kung fu prodigy from Beijing who moves to New York City with his mother following a family tragedy. Struggling to adapt to his new surroundings and leave his past behind, Li finds himself caught in constant conflict despite his efforts to stay out of trouble. When a friend faces a challenge, Li steps up by entering a karate tournament, but his kung fu expertise isn’t enough to secure victory. With the help of his mentor, Mr. Han (Chan), and guidance from legendary fighter Daniel LaRusso (Macchio), Li attempts to unite the principles of kung fu and karate.
This is the feature directorial debut for Jonathan Entwistle, whose credits include Netflix series The End of the F**ing World and I Am Not Okay with This. The screenplay was written by Rob Lieber, writer of 2014 Disney film Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and 2018 sequel Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween.
Karate Kid: Legends, also starring Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, and Ming-Na Wen, opens in Australian cinemas on 29 May and US cinemas on 30 May 2025.
