Keanu Reeves Will Be Filming ‘John Wick’ 4 and 5 Next Year

Prepare yourself for not one, but two more John Wick movies!

That’s right, not only is John Wick 4 lined up for release, Lionsgate has now officially greenlit a fifth film in the Keanu Reeves-led action franchise. The studio’s plan is to film both films back-to-back in 2021.

Lionsgarte CEO John Feltheimer shared the news in an earnings call, saying (quote via Deadline), “We’re also busy preparing scripts for the next two installments of our John Wick action franchise, with John Wick 4 slated to hit theatres Memorial Day weekend 2022. We hope to shoot both John Wick 4 & 5 back to back when Keanu becomes available early next year.”

The Wick brand will continue firing for the foreseeable future. There’s also a spinoff television series titled The Continental that’s in the works at Starz, with a plan to hit screens sometime after the fourth film is released.

It’s completely understandable why the studio is keen to expand this franchise as soon as possible. Financially, the films have gone from strength to strength; the first film earned $US86 million, the second over $US171 million, and the third over $US326.7 million. That’s over $584 million for the franchise thus far, with budgets that have been kept relatively modest for action extravaganzas.

John Wick: Chapter 4, directed by franchise helmer Chad Stahelski and written by John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum co-writer Shay Hatten, is currently scheduled to open in the U.S. on May 27, 2022.

Reeves has a few franchise entries in the pipeline. Apart from more Wick action, the actor will soon be seen in Bill & Ted Face the Music and is currently filming the fourth Matrix film, the latter of which will be hitting cinemas in 2022. Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing Reeves do another Speed movie – perhaps reuniting him with Bullock as well.
