Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock are reuniting for a new romantic thriller, marking their third collaboration following 1994’s action classic Speed and 2006 fantasy romance The Lake House.

The untitled project is in development at Amazon MGM Studios and is being described as a “propulsive” romantic thriller. Reeves and Bullock will also serve as producers on the film, alongside Mark Gordon, who previously produced Speed. This marks a full-circle moment for the trio, whose work together helped define ‘90s action cinema.

As was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the screenplay is being written by Noah Oppenheim, known for writing Natalie Portman-starring biopic Jackie, co-creating the Netflix political thriller series Zero Day, and co-writing franchise starter The Maze Runner. The film was developed after Gordon and Oppenheim approached Reeves and Bullock with the concept, with all four continuing to build the film together.

Details of the plot are under wraps for now, but expectations are naturally high. Speed remains a touchstone in the action genre, boasting undeniable chemistry between its leads. This will be Bullock’s first lead role in a major project since 2022’s The Lost City, which grossed nearly $200 million worldwide. She produced that film as well. Bullock also had a small role in action film Bullet Train the same year.

Reeves, meanwhile, remains very busy. He was last seen in John Wick: Chapter 4 and heard in voice roles in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Prime Video animated anthology Secret Level, and Apple TV+ series Severance. He’ll soon be seen back as Wick in spinoff Ballerina, led by Ana de Armas, and has been confirmed as returning in a fifth chapter.
