Yep, comedy actor Kevin James will be taking on the role of the bad guy in an action-thriller.
Simon Pegg was originally attached to play the antagonist in the thriller Becky, but was forced to leave the project to a scheduling conflict. Paul Blart star Kevin James has now stepped in, set to play a convict taking on a teenage girl.
Deadline broke the news, reporting that Becky will follow the titular 14-year-old (played by Annabelle: Creation and The Haunting of Hill House actress Lulu Wilson) as she visits a lake house – an effort by her father to reconnect after her mum’s death. Things hit the fan when a group of convicts invade the lake house, pushing Becky to take matters into her own hands. James plays the leader of the gang, the merciless Dominick.
Directing the film are Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion, who have previously helmed 2014 Elijah Wood horror-comedy Cooties and the 2017 Dave Bautista action film Bushwick. The script come from newcomers Nick Morris, Ruckus Skye and Lane Skye.
Wilson’s credits also include Ouija: Origin of Evil and HBO mini-series Sharp Objects. This could be the right change of pace for James, whose sitcom Kevin Can Wait was cancelled in 2018 after two seasons. His most recent credit was reprising his voice role as Frankenstein in Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.
