Lionsgate has dropped the first trailer for Kin, an upcoming crime-thriller with a sci-fi twist.
The film combines two narratives that could very well be from different films. On one side, we have an adopted young boy (Myles Truitt) who discovers an alien weapon. On the other, is his brother (Jack Reynor), who has recently been released from prison owing some bad folk a lot of money. It all comes together when the brothers go on the run, chased by both otherwordly soldiers and a criminal gang (led by James Franco).
The trailers shows off what could be a solid picture, balancing genres with what appear to be good performances and a focus on character. This could put feature-debut directors Jonathan Baker and Josh Baker on the map, and it bodes well that Stranger Things and Arrival producer Shawn Levy is on board as well. We’ll see.
Kin, also starring Zoë Kravitz and Dennis Quaid, arrives in Australia on August 30 and opens in the US on August 31.
