Jennifer Beals is set to star in a new pilot for TNT. Deadline is reporting that Beals will headline Proof, a supernatural medical-drama to be executive produced by Kyra Sedgwick.
The show will follow Dr. Kathryn Russo (Beals), a skeptical surgeon with “a caustic edge” who has been struggling with the loss of her teenage son, as well as a troubled relationship with her surviving daughter. She begins to investigate cases of reincarnation, out-of-body experiences and hauntings — “all of it looking for verifiable proof to answer one of life’s greatest questions: Is death truly the end, or is there something else beyond?”
The pilot for Proof is to be written by Rob Bragin, best known as a writer for Murphy Brown, and directed by Alex Graves, who has directed six episodes of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Beals was pursued for a number of different pilots this season, settling on Proof. It seems like a safe choice, a medical drama mixed with the supernatural – two genres that have done pretty well on television. Time will tell if this show is a success, assuming it gets a series order in the first place.
Sedgwick, who starred in TNT’s crime-drama The Closer, will be executive producing alongside Jill Littman, Tom Jacobson, Bragin and Graves.
