A great featurette has dropped for La La Land, offering up behind-the-scenes footage and interview snippets with the cast and crew.
As with most movies, a ton of pre-production work is needed. With musicals, well, you can only imagine. Choreography, compositions, singing lessons; the list goes on and on. Gosling says it took him around 3 months to learn the piano, while musician and chart-topper John Legend, who understandable boasts a wealth of musical knowledge, reveals he had to learn the guitar.
The video below covers a number of elements in its short run-time, from the chemistry that Gosling and Emma Stone have on screen, to the months of rehearsals needed to be mastered before cameras rolled.
The buzz has been mighty strong for this one. Whiplash writer-director Damien Chazelle looks to have crafted a wonderful musical that serves as a throwback while embracing its own stylings. The trailers have been great, and the early reviews have been glowing. Fingers crossed.
La La Land will be opening in US cinemas on December 16 and arrives in Australia on December 26.
Written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Damien Chazelle, LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts.
