The official teaser trailer for Lanterns has arrived, providing our first proper look at the live-action DC series led by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre. Watch the teaser above, then read on for what’s been revealed ahead of its debut this August on HBO Max.
Hal Jordan and John Stewart Investigate a Murder on Earth
Lanterns follows new recruit John Stewart (Pierre) and Lantern veteran Hal Jordan (Chandler), members of the intergalactic Green Lantern Corps who find themselves drawn into a dark mystery on Earth.

According to the official logline, the pair are pulled into the investigation of a murder in the American heartland, with the case unfolding far from the cosmic side of the Lantern mythology.
The teaser leans into that grounded setup, showing Jordan and Stewart travelling through the American Southwest and clashing with local authorities as they investigate the case. Although the wider mythology of the Green Lantern Corps is largely kept in the background, the trailer still sprinkles in a few recognisable elements, including a Lantern ring, a power battery and a glimpse of the Corps uniform.
It also closes with a cheeky nod to the wider Lantern universe. “Have you ever talked with the other Lanterns?” Stewart asks Jordan. Hal replies, “I’m the only human. They’re aliens. One of ’em is a fuckin’ squirrel.”

Cast and Creative Team Behind the Series
Alongside Chandler and Pierre, the series also stars Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, and Jason Ritter, among others. Nathan Fillion, who appeared as Green Lantern Guy Gardner in James Gunn’s Superman, is expected to reprise the role in Lanterns, bringing another member of the Corps into the story.
Lanterns is a DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television production. The pilot episode is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King, who also serve as co-creators of the series, with Mundy acting as showrunner.
The first two episodes are directed by James Hawes (The Amateur, One Life), while Stephen Williams (Fallout, The Last of Us), Geeta Vasant Patel (House of the Dragon) and Alik Sakharov (Ozark) are also on board to direct. Executive producers include Mundy, Lindelof, James Gunn, Peter Safran, King, Ron Schmidt and Hawes.
Lanterns is set to premiere this August exclusively on HBO Max.
