Roadshow Films has dropped a new trailer for The Lego Batman Movie, the upcoming CG-animated spinoff focusing in on the Will Arnett-voiced Batman character we met in The Lego Movie.
Despite his fame and borderline popstar status, the Caped Crusader is a lonely man, the death of his parents playing a big part in his unwillingness to be a part of a family again. “Sir, you need to take responsibility for your life, and it starts by raising the young orphan you adopted,” says Alfred Pennyworth (voiced Ralph Fiennes).
Cue high energy, plenty of humour and lively animation in what could be an equally successful follow-up to the 2014 smash. The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller aren’t at the helm of the spinoff – seeing as their off in a galaxy far, far away – but having Chris McKay, the first film’s animation co-director & animation supervisor, on board to direct should bode well. Fingers crossed.
The Lego Batman Movie, also featuring Rosario Dawson as the voice of Batgirl/Barbara Gordon, Michael Cera as the voice of Robin/Dick Grayson, Zach Galifianakis as the voice of The Joker, Jenny Slate as the voice of Harley Quinn, and Mariah Carey as the voice of Mayor Marion Grange, will be hitting the US on February 10 and arrives in Australia on March 30, 2017.
Synopsis for The Lego Batman Movie:
In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.
