The upcoming Power Rangers movie could kick off an entire series of films.
Lionsgate is apparently so confident in their upcoming Power Rangers film, which comes as a result of the studio’s team-up with Saban Entertainment, that they’re already looking at the possibility of seven more movies.
Variety quotes Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer, who took part in a conference call with analysts, as saying:
“We are really, really excited about the Power Rangers movie. We could see doing five or six or seven.”
Excited indeed. Feltheimer went on to say that the positive reception given to the early image (above) of the new Power Rangers in their slick new outfits made it clear to them that the public was embracing the idea of a new outing.
Of course, an entire franchise depends solely on how well the first film does financially. Even if the film doesn’t do well critically, à la Michael Bay’s Transformers films, big dollars will ensure Lionsgate and Saban keep churning them out.
As per the film’s official synopsis:
Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.
Directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac), the film is set to star Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, Becky G as the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger, and Elizabeth Banks (below) as the evil alien witch Rita Repulsa.
The new Power Rangers movie will hit U.S. cinemas on March 24, 2017.
