The first teaser trailer has been released for London Has Fallen, the sequel to the 2013 actioner Olympus Has Fallen.
Gerard Butler returns as secret service killing machine Mike Banning in the follow-up, which sees him having to take on terrorists that plan on taking out world leaders during the funeral for the British Prime Minster.
The first film was downright silly, no doubt about it, but it was also a good amount of violent fun. The sequel certainly looks to be packing a bigger budget, as London’s iconic structures get Michael Bay-ed and chaos reigns. It’s just a teaser, but we’re digging the epic and serious tone that’s being set up here.
Babak Najafi, whose credits include episodes of Cinemax series Banshee, takes on directing duties this time around. Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Shooter) directed the first.
London Has Fallen, also starring Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett, Melissa Leo, Robert Forster, Sean O’Bryan, Radha Mitchell, Jackie Earle Haley, Alon Aboutboul, Charlotte Riley, and Waleed Zuaiter, hits the U.S. on January 22, 2016.
Official synopsis for London Has Fallen:
The sequel to the worldwide smash hit Olympus Has Fallen begins in London, where the British Prime Minister has passed away under mysterious circumstances. His funeral is a must-attend event for leaders of the western world. But what starts out as the most protected event on earth, turns into a deadly plot to kill the world’s most powerful leaders, devastate every known landmark in the British capital, and unleash a terrifying vision of the future. Only three people have any hope of stopping it: the President of the United States, his formidable secret service head (Gerard Butler), and an English MI-6 agent who rightly trusts no one.
