The first official trailer for the highly anticipated animated film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim has been released, offering fans an animated look at the expansive world of Middle-earth. Produced by New Line Cinema, this original anime feature marks a return to the epic universe that captivated audiences in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendary novels.
Set 183 years before the events of the original trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim chronicles the story of Helm Hammerhand. When Wulf, a cunning Dunlending lord, launches a vengeful assault, Helm and his people must defend their fortress, the Hornburg, later known as Helm’s Deep. In the face of overwhelming odds, Héra rises to lead the resistance against a relentless foe.
The anime film is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama, known for Blade Runner: Black Lotus and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, with Lord of the Rings trilogy creatives Peter Jackson, Philippa Boyens, and Fran Walsh among the producers and executive producers.

The voice cast includes Brian Cox (Succession) as Helm Hammerhand, the formidable King of Rohan; Gaia Wise (A Walk in the Woods) as his daughter Héra; Luke Pasqualino (Snowpiercer) as Wulf, the antagonist; Miranda Otto, reprising her iconic role as Éowyn, Shieldmaiden of Rohan, narrating the tale. The cast also features Lorraine Ashbourne (Bridgerton), Yazdan Qafouri (I Came By), and Benjamin Wainwright (World on Fire), among others.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is set for a theatrical release in Australia on December 12th and in the US on December 13th.
