Ooooh what is this?!
Check out the official teaser trailer that HBO has released for Lovecraft Country, an upcoming series that boasts J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele among its executive producers. The show is based on the novel of the same name by Matt Ruff and is set in 1950s America, following Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) on his search for his missing father (Michael Kenneth Williams).
The trailer kicks off what looks like a dramatic and wonderfully crafted look at a man’s experience in Jim Crow America… and then monsters turn up! As the synopsis below says, the show will be a narrative and thematic balancing act, on “both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.” Hell yeah.
Lovecraft Country, also starring Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Courtney B. Vance, will be hitting HBO in August.
