Sony Pictures Entertainment has dropped an action-packed new trailer for the upcoming remake, The Magnificent Seven.
Starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, and Ethan Hawke, among others, this remake of the 1960 western starring Steve McQueen and Yul Brynner, itself a reimagining of Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 masterpiece Seven Samurai, tells of seven outlaws who are employed by desperate townspeople to take down a malicious industrialist.
We could be in for a fun film, one that looks to be banking on a charismatic cast and muscular direction from Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Shooter, The Equalizer, Southpaw). The trailer is energetic and well cut, although perhaps misplaced hip hop tracks (see: Assassin’s Creed) are becoming a little tiresome.
Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think.
The Magnificent Seven, also starring Peter Sarsgaard, Vincent D’Onofrio, Byung-Hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Martin Sensmeier, will open in the U.S. on September 23 and will arrive in Australia on September 29.
Synopsis for The Magnificent Seven:
Director Antoine Fuqua brings his modern vision to a classic story in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ and Columbia Pictures’ The Magnificent Seven. With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.
