Sony has unveiled the first trailer for The Magnificent Seven, the upcoming remake boasting a cast that includes Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, who’s previously worked with Washington on Training Day and The Equalizer, this remake of a remake (the 1960 John Sturges western of the same name is a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 film Seven Samurai) tells of seven outlaws that are employed by the town of Rose Creek to take down a ruthless industrialist who has taken control.
The first trailer below provides a fun look at what could be a very solid redo. Fuqua’s proven himself a strong action director in the past, and he’s certainly got the right cast and plot to deliver some big-screen entertainment. Westerns like this don’t come along too often these days; here’s hoping The Magnificent Seven works a treat.
The Magnificent Seven, also starring Byung-Hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Martin Sensmeier, will hit the U.S. on September 23 and Australia on September 29.

Director Antoine Fuqua brings his modern vision to a classic story in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ and Columbia Pictures’ The Magnificent Seven. With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.
