Warner Bros. has given the green light to a Man of Steel sequel.

We’re going to be getting a follow-up to Zack Snyder’s 2013 Superman movie, reports The Wrap. The outlet cites a source as saying that the studio has put a Man of Steel sequel into active development, although no official word from WB has been released as yet.

Warners Bros.’ DC slate is looking quite busy, so it’s anyone’s guess as to when Man of Steel 2 will be scheduled for release. Ben Affleck’s solo Batman film still doesn’t have an official release date locked in, and that one was confirmed back in April. Either way, as The Wrap reports, the next Superman film will likely be released after Batfleck’s first solo outing.

As has become quite the trend for the studio’s DC films, Man of Steel kicked off the DCEU with mixed reviews. The Zack Snyder-directed, Christopher Nolan-produced picture nevertheless still brought in enough dough for a universe-starter, raking $US668 million in global box office receipts.

WB is moving forward with this universe in an interesting order. As opposed to the Marvel formula, the studio has wasted no time in getting to multi-character, team-building pictures, moving onto Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad after giving only Superman a solo pic.

Next up is Wonder Woman, scheduled for U.S. release on June 2, 2017, and then we’re right back into the team exercise with Justice League, out in the U.S. on November 17, 2017.

We’ll keep you informed.
