New ‘Mare of Easttown’ Trailer: Kate Winslet Tackles a Small-Town Murder Case in HBO Limited Series

HBO

HBO has unveiled a new trailer for upcoming mini-series Mare of Easttown, led by Oscar winner Kate Winslet.

The seven-part limited series has Winslet playing Mare Sheehan, a small-town Pennsylvania detective whose life isn’t exactly going swimmingly. Things take a further turn when a body is discovered in a local creek. With the small-town emotions at her door, her internal issues, and the arrival of a county detective (Evan Peters, X-Men: Days of Future Past, WandaVision) brought in to assist with the case, it’s clear hard times lay ahead. The cast includes Guy Pearce as Mare’s potential love interest, Jean Smart as Mare’s mother, and Aussie actress Angourie Rice as Mare’s daughter, among others.

Looks like solid character study and mystery series, and possibly the perfect platform for Winslet to showcase another strong performance in what could be quite a juicy role. All seven episodes are directed by Craig Zobel (The Leftovers, The Hunt, Z for Zachariah) and written by creator Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace, Run All Night).

Mare of Eastown premieres on HBO on April 18th and hits Australia’s Foxtel Plus on April 19th.
