Margot Robbie, the female lead in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, is set to star in Z for Zachariah. Deadline has reported that the 23-year-old actress has signed on to play the female lead in the adaptation of the post apocalyptic Robert C. O’Brien novel of the same name.
The film will tell the story of a small town girl who survives a nuclear war. She lives alone, until she sees a mysterious man making his way towards her valley.
Margot Robbie is set to star opposite Chris Pine (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave). Craig Zobel, the director of Great World of Sound and Compliance, will be at the helm.
Robbie is certainly making a name for herself quite quickly. The Australian actress recently wrapped Focus, a comedy starring Will Smith, and Suite Francais, a period drama starring Michele Williams. On top of that, The Wrap is reporting that Robbie may be playing Jane in David Yates’ Tarzan.
Here’s the book’s synopsis thanks to Amazon:
Ann Burden is sixteen years old and completely alone. The world as she once knew it is gone, ravaged by a nuclear war that has taken everyone from her. For the past year, she has lived in a remote valley with no evidence of any other survivors.
But the smoke from a distant campfire shatters Ann’s solitude. Someone else is still alive and making his way toward the valley. Who is this man? What does he want? Can he be trusted? Both excited and terrified, Ann soon realizes there may be worse things than being the last person on Earth.
