The film looks at the disintegration of a marriage and their attempt to also keep a balance of sorts for their child. The film comes from writer-director Noah Baumbach, whose credits include The Squid and the Whale, Frances Ha and While We’re Young. He’s great at crafting films around the everyday crises that can hit people today, and this one looks like it could pack the biggest emotional punch from his work so far. The “quirkiness” of some of his past films looks to be taking a back seat, leaving room for raw emotion and the reportedly phenomenal performances.
We can’t wait for this one, although, considering how unfortunately prevalent divorce is, it may hit home for many – so best start stocking up on those tissues now. Marriage Story, also starring Laura Dern, Alan Alda, and Ray Liotta, will be hitting Netflix on December 6.
MARRIAGE STORY is Academy Award nominated filmmaker Noah Baumbach’s incisive and compassionate portrait of a marriage breaking up and a family staying together. The film stars Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver. Laura Dern, Alan Alda, and Ray Liotta co-star.
