We heard that a U.S remake of 2008 French horror film Martyrs was on the agenda a while back, but it’s been pretty quite on that front until now.
Bloody Disgusting is reporting that the remake, directed by Scenic Route helmers Kevin and Michael Goetz, will be getting a limited theatrical U.S. opening and an HD Digital release on January 22 thanks to Anchor Bay Entertainment.
The original Martyrs shook audiences with its bloody, disturbing, yet layered, tale of revenge. The film told the story of a young woman who goes on journey of revenge against those that kidnapped and tormented her as a child. Her quest leads her and her friend, who was also abused as a child, towards a living hell.
The Martyrs remake stars Bailey Noble (True Blood) and Troian Bellisario (Pretty Little Liars), with Kate Burton, Blake Robbins, Caitlin Carmichael and Toby Huss rounding out the cast.
Here is the synopsis for the remake:
Ten-year-old Lucie flees from the isolated warehouse where she has been held prisoner. Deeply traumatized, she is plagued by awful night terrors at the orphanage that takes her in. Her only comfort comes from Anna, a girl her own age. Nearly a decade later and still haunted by demons, Lucie finally tracks down the family that tortured her. As she and Anna move closer to the agonizing truth, they find themselves trapped in a nightmare – if they cannot escape, a martyr’s fate awaits them…
