An attention-grabbing extended gameplay trailer has arrived for the upcoming PS5 game Marvel’s Wolverine, with Insomniac Games showing off a Logan outing that is not holding back. The trailer sets up Logan’s latest fight as he tracks a group of captured mutants being hunted by the Reavers, a heavily armed cybernetic militia working for Bolivar Trask. Yes, that Trask. The billionaire industrialist is being positioned as a major threat here, driven by his belief in human superiority and his campaign against mutantkind.

What Is Marvel’s Wolverine About?

The story finds James “Logan” Howlett pulled back toward Team X, the mutant task force he walked away from three years earlier, just as its members are facing their worst crisis yet. Mutants are being captured and hunted, while most of the wider world has no idea what is happening in the shadows.

With the Reavers working for Trask and mutants being rounded up, Logan is dragged back into the fight. The game will see him crossing paths with fellow mutants across locations including Canada, Japan and Madripoor, with mutant survival sitting at the centre of the story.

Jean Grey is also a major presence in the footage, appearing as an emerging leader among the captured mutants. While Marvel’s Wolverine remains a single-player game focused on Logan, Jean is shown backing him up in combat with her telekinetic abilities, opening up some nasty team-up opportunities along the way.

Is Marvel’s Wolverine Connected to Insomniac’s Spider-Man Games?

Yes, but don’t expect a Spidey cameo. Insomniac has confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine takes place in the same Marvel universe as its Marvel’s Spider-Man games, known as Earth-1048. As creative director Marcus Smith told IGN: “It happens in the same world, but we don’t have any crossover. Spider-Man will not be making an appearance in Wolverine.”

The focus is firmly on Logan. Game director Mike Daly also confirmed that players control Wolverine for the entire game, with no playable side missions as other characters. Jean Grey and Sabretooth can fight alongside him in certain moments, but this is Logan’s story from start to finish.

The Gameplay Looks Fast, Heavy and Very Bloody

The extended trailer shows Logan moving between stealth, ambush attacks and full-blown claw-based brawling. He can stalk enemies, drop in from above, and tear through Reavers using a mix of standard attacks and special combat moves called Techniques.

Two of those Techniques, Tornado Spin and Bull Rush, were highlighted by PlayStation, and both lean right into Logan’s physical, aggressive fighting style. Successful attacks, parries and kills build his Rage meter, which can then be used for stronger attacks or to trigger his Healing Factor when he is badly wounded.

Push Logan’s Rage far enough and he can activate Rage Tier 3, a stylised black-and-white burst of savagery inspired by Marvel Comics’ Black, White & Blood series. It is a very comic-book touch, but it still looks nasty in all the right ways.

There is also a Last Stand mechanic, allowing Logan to channel his Rage into his Healing Factor when he is close to death. In one trailer moment, we see his body repairing itself over his adamantium skeleton in real time. Useful, definitely. Also, apparently powerful enough to patch up the suit as well.

Jean Grey, Mystique, Omega Red, Sabretooth and More Appear

The new footage gives fans plenty to pick apart on the character front. Jean Grey gets the biggest spotlight among the supporting mutants, using her powers to hold enemies in place, disrupt Reavers, and create openings for Logan to finish them off.

The trailer also brings a handful of familiar Marvel names into view, including Mystique, Omega Red and Sabretooth. The footage suggests Omega Red will be part of a major boss encounter, while Sabretooth will apparently fight alongside Logan at points — although more as a violent rival than a friendly teammate.

Leech is also shown among the captured mutants. In Marvel lore, Leech can suppress or dampen mutant powers, making his appearance an interesting inclusion given Trask’s wider agenda. The mutant-suppressing collars and Trask Industries tech point to a story built around fear, control and persecution.

And, of course, where Trask goes, Sentinels are usually not far behind. The trailer includes a look at a smaller Sentinel unit, tying the game even more firmly into classic X-Men territory.

Motorcycle Set Pieces, Customisation and Gore Options

It would not feel like a proper Logan adventure without a motorcycle, and the trailer delivers on that front too. One major set piece sees Wolverine tearing down a highway, attacking trucks, slashing tyres, leaping between vehicles and taking the fight straight to the Reavers on the road.

Customisation will also play a role. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes extra suits and claw designs, while PlayStation has confirmed that suits and claws are purely cosmetic. The Deluxe extras include looks such as the Age of Apocalypse Suit, Savage Suit, Night Hunt Suit, Incredible Suit and New Leather Suit, along with different claw styles.

For players who are not quite ready for the full splatter-fest, there will also be an option to reduce or turn off the gore. Judging by this trailer, that setting may get some use.

Insomniac has also confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine will include a wide range of accessibility options at launch, covering support for players with cognitive, visual, auditory and motor disabilities.

Marvel’s Wolverine Release Date and Pre-Order Details

Marvel’s Wolverine will be released exclusively for PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026.

The standard edition is priced at $69.99 USD and $124.95 AUD, with pre-orders including early unlocks for the Classic Brown Suit, Reflective Claws, one additional Technique Point, and four PlayStation Avatars featuring Mystique, Logan, Jean and Sabretooth.

The Digital Deluxe Edition is priced at $79.99 USD and $139.95 AUD, and includes the full digital PS5 game, all pre-order bonuses, five exclusive suits, five exclusive claw designs, and three additional Technique Points.

Insomniac already set a high bar with its Marvel’s Spider-Man games, but Marvel’s Wolverine clearly has a very different rhythm. This is its own beast: nastier, heavier, bloodier, and built around Logan’s particular brand of problem-solving.
