Big New ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Trailer: Disney’s Emily Blunt-Starring Sequel Looks Wonderful

Walt Disney Pictures

Disney has unveiled a big new trailer for Mary Poppins Returns, the upcoming sequel starring Emily Blunt in the role made famous by Julie Andrews.

Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha and Into the Woods director Rob Marshall directs this follow-up, set around 20 years after the events of the 1964 classic. Poppins (Blunt) has returned, this time to help the next generation of the Banks family, who are undergoing a hard time following a tragic loss.

It looks wonderful. The nods to the original film are very clear, the design is gorgeous, there’s an oh-so sweet tone on display, the cast is superb, there’s hand-drawn animation, Dick Van Dyke appears, and our money is already coming out of our pockets.

Mary Poppins Returns, also starring (I mean, seriously) Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, and Meryl Streep, will be hitting US cinemas on December 19 and arrives in Australia on New Year’s Day.
