The first trailer has arrived for Materialists, writer-director Celine Song’s highly-anticipated follow-up to Past Lives, boasting Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans as leads. Take a look above.
Song is again dealing with a type of love triangle, although with a different twist in this New York-set dramedy. Johnson plays Lucy, an ambitious matchmaker whose job it is to find other people their perfect person. Ironically, it’s her own love life that spirals into chaos when she finds herself caught between two very different men: the charming and wealthy Randy, played by Pascal, and her not-so-perfect ex, John, played by Evans. Having both these guys after you? Oh, poor, poor Lucy.
The two-and-a-half-minute trailer teases Lucy’s inner conflict as she juggles the two relationships, and wonders where her heart should lean. “When I see your face, I see wrinkles and children that look like you,” Evans’ John tells her. “So where does that leave us?”
