Matthew McConaughey’s career hasn’t slowed down since he took control and decided to tackle more serious roles. The Academy Award winning actor put in another impressive performance in last year’s Interstellar, and he’s locked in two more movies for us to look forward to.
First up, Gold. The next film from director Stephen Gaghan (Syriana) will see McConaughey play a modern day gold prospector who teams up with a geologist in one final attempt to find gold, in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia no less. This true story tells of a journey from our main character’s small mining town, to Borneo, to Wall Street boardrooms, finishing up in an unexpected case of fraud.
Principal photography, taking place in New York, New Mexico and Thailand, is to begin in June.
Deadline reports that McConaughey will also be starring in an adaptation of Christopher McDougall’s best-selling book, Born To Run: A Hidden Tribe, Super Athletes, And The Greatest Race The World Has Never Seen. Another true story, McConaughey will be playing an award-winning journalist and running enthusiast who decides to travel to Mexico’s Copper Canyons to find out how the Tarahumara Indians mastered the art of running giant distances without stopping.
Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom, State of Play, World War Z) has adapted the book, which spent a massive 178 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list and currently selling 10,000 copies a month. Mickey Liddell, Deb Newmyer and Lorenzo di Bonaventura are producing the film.
