Michael B. Jordan as Superman? Warner Bros. could have been, and could still be, open to the possibility.
The Black Panther, Fantastic Four and Creed actor reportedly met with the studio earlier this year to discuss his possible involvement with Superman. The news comes from Variety, who report that Jordan had a meeting that saw him “pitching Warners on a vision for the character.” No further details on what the pitch entailed have come to light.
Having Jordan circling Superman is certainly an interesting proposition, and it shows that WB is moving back to the drawing board to again reboot the character following Henry Cavill’s run as the DC hero in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Fans have been clamoring for another solo Superman film with Cavill, but that’s looking highly doubtful now. Gotta feel for him. Like Affleck, Cavill put in his all and has been outspoken about his passion for his character, but he hasn’t had much luck with the films and the studio’s management of the universe.
As far as when we’ll see another Superman movie, it looks like we’ve got a while. Variety’s sources say that since WB hasn’t been able to settle on a new plan and don’t have a director or screenplay to move with, “a new Superman film is unlikely to hit screens before 2023.”
Jordan was reportedly unwilling to commit to a Superman movie due to the project being far from production, plus he’s got plenty of work in the pipeline. So yeah, that essentially means that the door could be open for Jordan to don the cape in the future. Stay tuned…
