The new Star Trek series has cast a Captain.
Upcoming series Star Trek: Discovery is set to star Michelle Yeoh, the acclaimed Malaysian-born actress known for such blockbusters as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tomorrow Never Dies and Sunshine, reports Coming Soon.
She’s to play a Captain, but it won’t be of the Discovery. According to Deadline, Yeoh will be playing Han Bo, Captain of the spacecraft Shenzhou, which will apparently have a big part to play in the first season.
It’s quite a get for both Yeoh and Discovery, which is set for Netflix distribution outside of the US and Canada thanks to a deal between the streaming giant and CBS. For viewers in the US and Canada, the series will be airing on CBS All Access.
Although plot details are being kept under wraps, it’s known that the series will be set 10 years before the events that took place in the original series. The main character is expected to be a non-white young woman who is a lieutenant commander on the Federation starship Discovery.
Star Trek: Discovery, with Revenge exec producers Gretchen J. Berg & Aaron Harberts on board as showrunners and Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller on board as co-creator and executive producer, will be kicking off in May 2017.
