Fans hoping to see Miles Morales’ Spider-Man leap into live-action in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will have to wait a while longer.
During a recent sit-down with journalists, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that the studio has been asked to hold off on the character — at least until Sony finishes its animated Spider-Verse trilogy.

Marvel Has Been Told to “Stay Away”
Asked about the status of a live-action Miles Morales, Feige was blunt: “That is nowhere,” he said (as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter), referring to Marvel’s current development plans.
Feige explained that the delay stems from Sony, which holds the film rights to the Spider-Man universe and has scored major success with its animated Spider-Verse franchise. “Sony has their brilliant, genius, incredible Spider-Verse animated franchise going and until that finishes, we’ve been told to stay away,” Feige said.
The U.S. release date for third entry in the animated series, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, was recently pushed to June 25, 2027 — three weeks later than its previously announced date. It will pick up where Across the Spider-Verse left off, following its multiversal cliffhanger.

Diversity Still a Priority, Says Feige
Feige also reaffirmed Marvel’s commitment to diversity and authentic representation.
“Marvel represents the world outside your window. I’ve always said it, before DEI and woke became a thing, and after DEI and woke became a thing — are we after? I don’t think so.”
He pointed to Iman Vellani — star of Ms. Marvel and The Marvels — as an example of what that representation looks like when it works. “One of the greatest bits of casting we’ve ever done,” Feige said. “I can’t wait to see her somewhere.”
A Long Wait Ahead for the Live-Action Spider-Hero
With Beyond the Spider-Verse now set for 2027, any plans to bring Miles into the MCU appear to be firmly on hold until then — at the very least. Of course, further delays to Sony’s animated trilogy could push that timeline even further.
And if the franchise continues to succeed, there’s always the possibility Sony keeps a firm grip on the character’s future, potentially extending their own Miles Morales storytelling before handing over the reins.
