Netflix has dropped a teaser trailer for Mindhunter, the upcoming crime-thriller series boasting David Fincher as executive producer and director (2 episodes).

The series is based on Mind Hunter: Inside FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, the 1996 book by John Douglas and Mark Olshanker. The book told of some of the most difficult and most gruesome cases in Special Agent John Douglas’ twenty-five year career with the Investigative Support Unit. Douglas has long been renowned in his field and was even the model for the character of Jack Crawford in The Silence of the Lambs.

It certainly sounds like the right type of dark material for Fincher to get his hands on, and having Netflix on board as the show’s home bodes very well. The teaser below offers up some intriguing snippets, with that Fincher tone and eye on display everywhere. We can’t wait for this one.

Charlize Theron and Gone Girl producers Cean Chaffin & Joshua Donen are also on board as executive producers. Apart from Fincher, series directors include Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna), Tobias Lindholm (A Hijacking) and Andrew Douglas (The Amityville Horror).

Mindhunter, starring Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallanay, Anna Torv and Hannah Gross, will hit Netflix this October.
