‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’: Final Trailer, Cannes Confirmed, Huge Budget Reported

Final Trailer

Could the end be in sight for Ethan Hunt? Paramount has unveiled the final trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, the eighth and potentially final instalment in the long-running Tom Cruise franchise. It’s also been confirmed that the film will premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Take a look at the trailer above and learn more below.

Tom Cruise returns as IMF agent Ethan Hunt, continuing on the Entity storyline introduced in Dead Reckoning – Part One. The film’s impressive ensemble includes Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Henry Czerny, Pom Klementieff, Angela Bassett, and Holt McCallany, among others. The new trailer also offers up glimpses of Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham and Severance star Tramell Tillman.

Cannes Film Festival 2025

The film has been lined up for a premiere at Cannes, where it will screen out of competition on May 14th. “Actor and producer Tom Cruise, his long-time collaborator, director and screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie, and the cast will walk the steps of the Palais des Festivals,” shared the festival in a press release.

This will mark Cruise’s third appearance at the festival; his first was with Ron Howard’s Far & Away, back in 1992, and his second was with Top Gun: Maverick in 2022.

A Huge Budget

The pressure is well and truly on for The Final Reckoning to perform VERY well at the box office. Speaking on The Town podcast (as reported by World of Reel), entertainment journalist Matt Belloni has shared that the film’s production budget is coming in at around $US400 million.

It’s a massive price tag that, assuming there’s truth to this report, puts The Final Reckoning up there among the priciest films ever made. The fourth most expensive, to be precise, according to this Wikipedia list. To pull in a clear profit, the film would have to come close to, if not pass, the $US1 billion mark at the worldwide box office.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning opens in Australian cinemas on May 17th and U.S. cinemas on May 23rd.
