First ‘Money Monster’ Trailer: George Clooney is Taken Hostage Live on TV

Money Monster

Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Money Monster, the upcoming thriller-drama starring George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Jack O’Connell.

Directed by Jodie Foster, Money Monster sees Clooney play Lee Gates, the host of a popular financial network show. Gates and his producer (Roberts) are thrown into quite the predicament when an irate investor (O’Connell) takes the host and his crew hostage live on air.

There’s a lot of talent here. The team of Clooney and Roberts is obviously worth quite a bit, but it’s the inclusion of O’Connell that has us even more excited. The actor has been acing every role, impressing in films such as ’71, Starred Up, and Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken. And while we’ve seen this type of narrative play out before, Foster’s direction (her work with The Beaver remains underrated), the strong cast, and a timely discussion on the dark side of the financial sector could make this a winner. Hopefully.

Money Monster, also starring Dominic West, Giancarlo Esposito, and Caitriona Balfe, opens in the U.S. on May 13.
