‘Monster Hunter’ Trailers: Milla Jovovich Battles Giant Creatures in Video Game Movie

Sony Pictures

Check out the trailers that have arrived for upcoming video game adaptation Monster Hunter, led by Milla Jovovich and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, Jovovich’s real-life husband who previously directed her in four of the Resident Evil films (1st, 4th, 5th and 6th).

The film has Jovovich leading a unit of bad-ass army types who find themselves in a world filled with giant monsters after being transported there during a sandstorm. Then again, plot details are kind of irrelevant when you’re really wanting to see the monster mayhem.

A quick look at thumbs-up-to-down ratios and comments sections and it’s clear that fans of the video game franchise this is oh-so loosely based on aren’t all that pleased with what they’re seeing. As someone not too familiar with the games, I’m mostly indifferent, and at best I’m hoping for an entertaining solider-beast slugfest to munch some popcorn to. We’ll see.

Monster Hunter, also starring Tony Jaa, Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, Jim Au-Yeung and Ron Perlman, will be hitting Australian cinemas on December 3rd and U.S. cinemas on December 30th. Take a look at the international and US trailers below.

Official synopsis for Monster Hunter:

Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When an unexpected sandstorm transports Captain Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her unit (TI Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower. In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious Hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills allow him to stay one step ahead of the powerful creatures. As Artemis and Hunter slowly build trust, she discovers that he is part of a team led by the Admiral (Ron Perlman). Facing a danger so great it could threaten to destroy their world, the brave warriors combine their unique abilities to band together for the ultimate showdown.

Based on the global video game series phenomenon MONSTER HUNTER.
