Take a look at the trailer for Monsters and Men, a timely drama that eyes the racial tensions and police brutality that’s all-too real in the US.

The film explores the aftermath of a police killing of a black man and tells the story through the eyes of the bystander who filmed the act, an African-American police officer and a high-school baseball phenom inspired to take a stand.

Debut feature filmmaker Reinaldo Marcus Green took home an Outstanding First Feature Special Jury Prize at Sundance for this film, which looks like an assured, potentially powerful piece of cinema. Fingers crossed.

The cast includes John David Washington (Denzel’s son, known for Ballers), Hamilton stars Anthony Ramos and Jasmine Cephas Jones, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Rob Morgan, and Chanté Adams.

Watch out for the film to be released sometime later this year.

When a young father witnesses the police shooting of an unarmed black man, the tight-knit community of Bed-Stuy is pushed to the brink in Reinaldo Marcus Green’s Sundance Award-winning portrait of race, family, and consequence.
