‘Morbius’ Trailer Unveils Jared Leto as a Marvel Vampire

Sony Pictures

Sony has released our first look at Morbius, the upcoming film that finds Oscar winner Jared Leto playing Marvel antihero Michael Morbius.

The film follows a Nobel Prize-winning doctor who has long searched for a cure to the blood disorder that he and others hold. His journey leads to a strange remedy that appears to work, until he begins to… change. A conflicted, violent antihero is soon born.

It’s a decent teaser trailer, establishing the character’s first stage and giving us just enough of his vampiric persona to get us excited. And yes, a painting on a wall and a big cameo confirms that this Morbius is, indeed, connected to the MCU. It may be safe to assume that Sony is finally going to tackle their Sinister Six team-up, which they’ve wanted since The Amazing Spider-Man days.

The film is directed by Life and Safe House helmer Daniel Espinosa, with a screenplay by Power Rangers (2017) and Dracula Untold scribes Matt Sazam and Burk Sharpless.

Also starring Jared Harris, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith and Tyrese Gibson, among others, Morbius will be in Australian cinemas on July 30 and US cinemas on July 31.

Official synopsis for Morbius:

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.
