Javier Bardem Snaps in New ‘Mother!’ Clip

Paramount Pictures

You have to hand it to the marketing crew hyping up Paramount Pictures’ Mother!; no matter how much we see, we still don’t really know what’s going on.

A new clip has dropped from the psychological thriller, the latest from Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler helmer Darren Aronofsky. The filmmaker appears to be taking some of that psycho mayhem he delivered in Black Swan and pushing it all up to 10 with Mother!, which tells of what unfolds when uninvited guests arrive at the home of Jennifer Lawrence’s Mother and Javier Bardem’s Him (that’s what their characters are credited as).

Following Michelle Pfeiffer’s stranger behaviour in that last clip, the video below offers up even more bizarre antics, this time from Bardem’s character in particular. What is this broken object? Why exactly is he so mad? And why are these guests already so scared of him? There are plenty of questions surrounding this one; we’ll see if any of them are answered – and if we even understand the answers – when the film opens in Aussie cinemas on September 14 and hits US cinemas on September 15.

A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. From filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream), mother! stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer in this riveting psychological thriller about love, devotion and sacrifice.
