Natalie Portman might not return to the MCU.
After making her Marvel debut as Jane Foster in the first Thor film, Portman revisited the role in the sequel Thor: The Dark World, where she played a role in helping save the planet from forgettable MCU villain Malekith. And that was it. Discounting the brief mention of Foster’s character in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Portman hasn’t had much to do in the overall MCU.
We know that Portman has not been cast in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, but will we see Portman reappear in this universe anytime soon? According to the Oscar-winning actress herself, it’s not likely.
“As far as I know, I’m done,” Portman said in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal.
“I don’t know if, maybe one day, they’ll ask for an Avengers 7 or whatever. I have no idea! But as far as I know I’m done. But it was a great thing to be a part of.”
It’s a bit of a shame that we won’t get more of her as the new phase unfolds. Then again, you never know. The MCU no doubt has many, many years and films to go, and there’s always a chance Foster is written back in for another outing.
Whether Foster and Thor’s relationship will ever continue remains to be seen. Thor: Ragnarok‘s female lead is Tessa Thompson, cast as the Asgardian-born Valkyrie, a character that has also had a relationship with Thor in the comics. Hmm.
