Natalie Portman Dives Back into the Dating Scene in Lena Dunham Rom-Com ‘Good Sex’

Natalie Portman is set to dive into the chaotic world of modern dating in Good Sex, a new romantic comedy written and directed by Lena Dunham.

The film sees the Black Swan and Annihilation star take on the role of a couples’ therapist, who finds herself navigating an identity crisis after spending a decade in a relationship that ultimately crumbles. Begrudgingly, she reenters the New York dating scene as she turns 40. What starts as a reluctant dive back into romance quickly spirals into a complicated balancing act—Ally falls into a steamy fling with a much younger Brooklyn hipster while also exploring a more stable, conventional relationship with a charming 50-something in Manhattan. Torn between passion and security, she’s forced to confront her own conflicting desires before everything unravels.

Dunham will also produce the film alongside Portman and Sophie Mas under their MountainA banner, with Michael Cohen also on board through Dunham’s Good Thing Going production company. As Deadline reports, the film is expected to generate plenty of buzz at the upcoming European Film Market, with CAA Media Finance handling domestic rights and FilmNation Entertainment managing international sales.

Portman has a packed schedule ahead, with three projects currently in post-production: Guy Ritchie’s adventure film Fountain of Youth, with John Krasinski and Eiza González; and Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist, with Jenna Ortega and Sterling K. Brown; and animated film The Twits, with a voice cast that includes Emilia Clarke. Meanwhile, Dunham, whose credits as writer and director include HBO series Girls and Prime Video film Catherine Called Birdy, is currently finishing work on the Netflix miniseries Too Much, starring Will Sharpe and Megan Stalter.
