Neill Blomkamp Posts Concept Art for Unofficial Alien Sequel

Director Neill Blomkamp, who burst onto the scene as a fresh breath of sci-fi air with District 9 and followed it up with the Matt Damon-starring Elysium, has revealed that he has been unofficially working on an Alien sequel.

“Was working on this. Don’t think I am anymore. Love it though,” Blomkamp wrote in an Instagram entry, posting what would be the first of many concept art pieces for a film that may have been titled Alien: Xenomorph.

The artworks are brilliant, showcasing the return of Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley and Michael Biehn’s Cpl. Dwayne Hicks.

“Woulda rocked. Was a mental stroll into the world Ridley Scott created,” Blomkamp writes, before tweeting, “Ps this has nothing to do with the studio. I just feel like I might do something else instead. In which case why not show some work-”

No details are released as to what particular reason Blomkamp had to get this work going, it may have been just a hobby or he may have been trying to develop ideas and concept art to use them in pitches. Fingers crossed we find out soon, but for now we can enjoy some great pieces of Alien art.

His last post is of interest. “…maybe I’ll go back to it ….love the world,” Blomkamp posts.

The director’s next film, the great-looking Chappie, hits U.S. cinemas on March 6.
