Kevin Feige Says Marvel is “Committed” to Blade: Character “Will Make It to the MCU”

Following all the delays that the Blade reboot has experienced, it’s understandable that fans have questioned whether the project would get off the ground at all. Thankfully, Marvel Studios Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige has some reassuring words, addressing the uncertainty surrounding the film’s progress and promising that the project is still very much alive.

Feige recently spoke with Brazilian outlet Omelete, emphasising Marvel’s commitment to bringing Blade to the MCU. “We’re committed to Blade,” Feige stated. “We love the character, we love Mahershala’s version of him. And rest assured: Whenever we change direction with a project, or are still trying to figure out how it fits into our agenda, we let the public know. You’re updated on what’s going on. But I can say that the character will make it to the MCU.”

The highly anticipated reboot, originally slated for a November 2025 release, has now been postponed indefinitely, largely due to numerous pre-production setbacks. Director Yann Demange stepped away from the project in June, marking the second time someone had exited the director’s role. Bassam Tariq, originally set to direct, departed due to scheduling conflicts, reportedly just before filming was about to begin. Reports at the time indicated that Mahershala Ali, cast as the titular vampire slayer, was frustrated with the lack of progress, as production came to a standstill.

Marvel first announced the Blade reboot at Comic-Con 2019, with the casting of Oscar winner Mahershala Ali drawing significant excitement. Mia Goth, who joined the cast earlier this year as antagonist Lilith, is presumably still attached to the film.

While a new release date remains to be confirmed, Feige’s comments offer fans some relief, reinforcing Marvel’s commitment to realising Ali’s Blade within the MCU. We can only hope that Marvel finds the right director and gets cameras rolling as soon as possible.
