New ‘The New Mutants’ Trailer: The Delayed X-Men Horror Movie is Finally Arriving

Walt Disney Studios

A new trailer has finally arrived for The New Mutants, the long-awaited X-Men movie featuring mutants such as Magik (played Anya Taylor-Joy), Wolfsbane (Maisie Williams), Sunspot (Henry Zaga) and Moonstar (Blu Hunt).

The New Mutants was filmed around three years ago, the first trailer arrived in October 2017, and the film was at that time scheduled for release in April 2018. While it was under Fox, the film was set for some big reshoots that didn’t eventuate, rumours spread that there were big issues with the film’s horror tone, and Disney’s acquisition of Fox kept the limbo going. Ultimately, the film’s release was pushed back close to a year.

Well, it looks like this is it. The New Mutants will be hitting cinemas in April, and we have a big new trailer to check out as the hype (re)builds. The movie is set in a psychiatric hospital of sorts, where young mutants are being held. When strange events begin to take place, these mutants must use their abilities and team up to stay alive.

The Fault in Our Stars helmer Josh Boone directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Knate Lee (Kidnap). While the big delays could provide some concern,  it’s good to know that Boone says this is the original vision he had for the film.

The New Mutants, also starring Alice Braga and Charlie Heaton, will open in US cinemas on April 3 and arrives in Australia the US on April 9.
