Disney+’s Live-Action ‘Pinocchio’ Movie Adds Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Cynthia Erivo to the Cast

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Cynthia Erivo have joined the cast of Disney‘s live-action/CG retelling of Pinocchio.

The film, which is to be directed by Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, last year’s The Witches), will have Levitt voicing the character of Jiminy Cricket and Erivo playing the Blue Fairy. The Wrap broke the news of Erivo’s casting.

“This is an incredible dream come true,” Levitt posted on social media. “Dreams really do come true,” posted Erivo.

Other cast members of Disney’s new Pinocchio include Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (who played Miles in The Haunting of Bly Manor and who had a role in recent Disney+ release Flora and Ulysses) as the voice of the titular puppet; Tom Hanks as Geppetto; Luke Evans as the coachman; Keegan-Michael Key as the voce of Honest John; and Lorraine Bracco as the voice of new character Sofia the Seagull.

Zemeckis co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Weitz, the Oscar-nominated scribe whose credits include About a Boy, Rogue One, and Disney’s 2015 live-action redo of Cinderella.

The new Pinocchio will begin filming this month in the UK. The film is set to be released on streaming service Disney+, although no release date has yet been announced.
