A new trailer has arrived for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, offering up more fun footage from the upcoming CG-animated sequel.

Picking up five years after the events of the first film, our Bricksburgian heroes now face a big new threat when LEGO DUPLO invaders from outer space arrive. Emmet (Chris Pratt), Lucy (Elizabeth Banks), Batman (Will Arnett) and the rest of the team find themselves on a new journey that leads to new characters and unexplored worlds. As per the synopsis below, there’s even a world where everything is… musical.

The lively animation and humour shown off in the trailer below bodes well for this sequel and fourth film in the Lego movie franchise. Pratt is voicing a second character this time around, badass Rex Dangervest, who is amusingly a combo of Pratt’s characters in Guardians of the Galaxy, The Magnificent Seven and Jurassic World.

Trolls helmer Mike Mitchell and Trisha Gum (head of story on The LEGO Batman Movie) direct from a screenplay by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller (directors and writers of the first film), Raphael Bob-Waksberg (BoJack Horseman) and Matthew Fogel.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, featuring a voice cast that also includes (deep breath) Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz, Arturo Castro, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Margot Robbie, will be hitting US cinemas on February 8 and Aussie cinemas on March 21, 2019.

Official synopsis for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part:

The much-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed, global box office phenomenon that started it all, “The LEGO® Movie 2” reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO® invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild.

The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the LEGO® universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are.

THE LEGO® MOVIE 2 is directed by Mike Mitchell and stars Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz and Arturo Castro.

THE LEGO® MOVIE 2 releases in Australian cinemas on March 21, 2019.
