Nicolas Cage has broken his silence on Spider-Noir being cancelled, and he certainly doesn’t sound heartbroken about it. Prime Video may have pulled the plug after one season, but Cage says that one season was “perfect”. He appears perfectly happy to leave it there.
Deadline, which broke the news of Cage’s reaction, obtained a statement from the Oscar winner following the cancellation. His complete response:
“For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man. Onwards, upwards, inwards.”

It’s a very Cage way of signing off, but the sentiment itself isn’t entirely surprising. Months before Spider-Noir was cancelled, Cage had already expressed uncertainty about whether a second season would happen while making it clear that he felt the team had accomplished what it set out to do and that the first season worked as its own story.
Cage Had Already Suggested One Season Could Be Enough
As we previously reported, Prime Video cancelled the eight-episode Marvel series just over three months after its May premiere. No official reason was given, making the decision particularly striking given the show’s strong reviews, healthy early viewing figures and considerable awards attention.
Cage starred as Ben Reilly, a down-on-his-luck private investigator and former masked vigilante in an alternate 1930s New York. It marked his first leading television role, following his voice performance as Spider-Man Noir in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
And if Cage is content to leave Spider-Noir as a one-season experiment, the series at least went out with plenty of silverware.
Spider-Noir Went Out an Emmy Winner
Just days after news of the cancellation emerged, Spider-Noir collected five Emmys during the second night of the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The series won for cinematography, stunt coordination, title design, visual effects and sound editing after heading into the awards with 11 nominations, more than any other Prime Video series this year.
That makes the timing of the cancellation all the more curious, even if Cage himself doesn’t appear particularly interested in dwelling on what might have been. For him, it seems, one strange, stylish and very Nicolas Cage season of Spider-Noir was enough.
