Nicole Kidman continues her remarkable run on television, expanding her impressive list of TV credits with yet another adaptation.
Over the past few years, Kidman has been a dominant force in the TV landscape, starring in series such as Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers, The Perfect Couple, and the forthcoming Australian series The Last Anniversary. Now, she’s setting her sights on a new project based on Liane Moriarty’s latest novel, Here One Moment.
Kidman’s production company Blossom Films, along with Per Saari, is partnering with Bruna Papandrea and Steve Hutensky’s Made Up Stories to adapt the mystery thriller. This collaboration reunites the trio of Kidman, Papandrea, and Moriarty, who have worked together on previous adaptations of Moriarty’s novels, including Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers. Fifth Season, which also worked on Nine Perfect Strangers and The Last Anniversary, recently acquired the screen rights to the novel in a highly competitive situation and is now setting up the project with Blossom Films and Made Up Stories.
Here One Moment, published last month, follows the unsettling aftermath of a mysterious figure known as “The Death Lady,” making clairvoyant predictions during a routine domestic flight. According to the novel’s synopsis, the passengers are told that the flight will be smooth and land safely, but soon after, they begin to die in the exact manner foretold by “The Death Lady”. The chilling premise asks the question: if you knew how and when you were going to die, would you change your life or try to outrun fate?
Although casting details have yet to be confirmed, there’s a strong possibility that Kidman will take on a starring role, following her pattern of involvement in the previous Moriarty adaptations. Kidman expressed her excitement about the project, saying, “I’m so happy for the ongoing partnership with Liane and so grateful to count her amongst my closest friends and collaborators.”
This marks the first new project announced for Kidman since her recent win for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival for her performance in A24’s Babygirl. The announcement also coincides with the news that Australian author Liane Moriarty has signed with UTA for film and television representation, a significant move considering the global popularity of her works, which have sold over 20 million copies in 40 languages.
Deadline first reported the news of the upcoming series adaptation.
