Netflix has dropped the official trailer for No Good Deed, the Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano dark comedy-mystery series from Dead to Me creator Liz Feldman. Watch it above and then proceed below, where we’ll give you the lowdown on what you need to know ahead of the show’s release.
The eight-episode series, set to premiere on 12th December, follows three families vying for ownership of a Los Angeles home that holds more than just real estate value—it’s a house with dark secrets lurking in every corner.
The Plot and the Star-Studded Cast, Led by Romano and Kudrow
No Good Deed is an exploration of ambition, secrecy, and the lengths people will go to secure what they believe will bring happiness. The series is set in the romantic yet foreboding neighbourhood of Los Feliz, where a picturesque 1920s Spanish-style villa becomes the centrepiece of a tense competition.
The story begins with Lydia and Paul Morgan, played by Kudrow and Romano, who are on the brink of selling their long-time family home. Lydia, a talented but high-strung former concert pianist, is deeply attached to the property, which represents years of cherished memories alongside buried trauma. Meanwhile, Paul, a stressed and financially strapped contractor, sees the sale as their ticket to freedom. The trailer teases their marital strain as the couple grapples with dark secrets tied to the house, secrets that may have repercussions for everyone involved.
“Ray is this instantly likable person who carries so much emotional baggage that you know is there, but he’s so good at hiding it,” Feldman said in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “Lisa is one of the most wholly unique, surprising, and subversively dark comedians on the planet. I felt so excited to be able to work with her in a capacity where she gets to really go deep as Lydia.”
Three families soon enter the picture, each bringing their own agendas and baggage. Linda Cardellini’s Margo is a cunning, image-conscious businesswoman determined to flip the villa for a hefty profit, enlisting the help of her sharp-tongued business partner, Gwen (Kate Moennig). Meanwhile, Carla (Teyonah Parris) and Dennis (O-T Fagbenle), a newlywed couple expecting their first child, see the house as the perfect foundation for their future—until financial strain and familial tension threaten to unravel their plans.
Rounding out No Good Deed‘s central cast is Luke Wilson’s JD Campbell, a once-famous soap opera star whose dwindling fame has left him desperate to downsize. As he and his wife set their sights on the Morgan house, their own marital struggles bubble to the surface.
Linda Cardellini Becomes a Bad Bitch
Feldman talked about the inspiration behind Cardellini’s character, explaining that the idea for Margo came about during conversations with Cardellini while wrapping Dead to Me. “She wanted to play ‘the complete opposite’ of her sweet protagonist, Judy,” Feldman shared. The Emmy-nominated actor was looking to portray a “badass bitch.”
Feldman recalled her creative process: “I thought, ‘That’s really interesting. What would that look like?’” She continued, “I had already started dreaming up this world of Los Angeles real estate and thinking, ‘Why hasn’t there been a show about the buying and selling of one house and all of the people that revolve around that one location?’ I thought, ‘Who would that badass bitch be in this world?’”
Behind the Scenes and Release Date
Feldman teams up once again with Dead to Me director Silver Tree, who helms the pilot and several episodes, alongside executive producers Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum from Gloria Sanchez Productions (Booksmart, Hustlers).
All eight episodes of No Good Deed will be streaming on Netflix from 12th December.
